TheRedKite Supporters,
In December 2010, TheRedKite project reached a major milestone when we had our first preview screening at the School of Informatics' Capstone Evening. It was a wonderful moment where we could publicly showcase what our talented team had put together over the course of two years. Now as we start a new year, we are getting back to work on the latest version of The Red Kite.
Many of the artists who worked on the project are now concentrating on family, friends, and finding a stable career. Thanks for all your amazing creativity that you have added to this project. On projects like these we learn so much in such a small amount of time. We have all taken so much from this project!
We also want to thank all of our friends, families, and fans for your encouragement and enthusiasm; it truly at times was what kept us going. We can’t wait to show you what is next!
It is our hope that many more projects like ours are created and realized in the Indianapolis area. If you don’t tell your story, who will? You can only benefit from jumping in! Find those who make you better, always ask for criticism, and respect the creative process!
Many Thanks!!!

September Update!
It's nearing the end of September which means it's time for an update! As of now animation is finished, lighting is about 40% there, and those last touches such as texture grunge and cloth sims are being wrapped up. Check out the WIP renders below!
Courtyard, Redux
Almost complete this gives an aerial view of our exterior courtyard and the surrounding city.
The Hospital
Watch for more updates as we wrap up hair, cloth, and lighting!

Sometimes, things come together all at once.
A milestone we have been struggling with has been overcome. Those of you who know the team well have known that we have been both struggling with Hair and reference files as well as integrating Vue 7 for our exterior shots. Well, either magically or by sheer determination both problems have been cured in less than a week!
We are finishing polishing animation, a few shaders, lighting, and beginning the end of cloth and hair simulations!
Here is an early render with Max naked, but hairy. YES!

Render updates
We are now rendering!! As of tonight rendering will be 5% finished with about 2 months left in the project. Here are some WIP renders :
This is Max, from Scene 5, shot 4
This is a WIP render from scene 5, shot 1 - there is still a little more to do
This is our waiting room on a brightly lit day, around 2pm. It's pretty close.
This is the hospital hallway at the same time
This is a more recent hospital exterior shot
And a close up of the bridge

One of the more interesting challenges we've run into recently.
Lots of rendering will be happening over the next month, so watch for updates! We'll be posting a few animated shots.

The Red Kite Character's Update
All, its been way too long! I missed you for the past few months while our Red Kite Group has been tearing it up! Where have you been? What have you been doing?
Me you ask?
Well, I'm Going a little crazy-outta-my-mind texturing the main characters, rigging, tweaking, rigging, tweaking, for our animators whom always find something wrong with my rigs... But working none the less. Just kidding animators, you are doing great!
Update:
- We have completed our animatic and are on our way to character animation as I finish off facial blend expressions for the main characters!
- Texturing and Rigging is nearly complete on all characters!
- We keep finding more assets that need modeling
- We just received great reviews for our animatic when we presented to our Score and Foley sound artists!!!!
- Vue (vegetation creation software) is giving us rendering woes, Ryan is tackling that issue as well as lighting!
- Texturing for Interior and Exterior environments is going well, as you can see in last week's post
Stereo is a big question mark, but we got our man Huckaba on it!
Here are some current screen shots of our main characters in ZBrush 3.0. Next week we will try to have a few shots of the animatic that we will show through progression. (can't let too much of the story out)
Enjoy!
Stay tuned for more updates! I'll try to post other happenings more often as well! Want to show off the rigs, but can't decide on a way to show them off as of yet...
